Pitso Mosimane to walk away with R22 million from Al Ahli

Pitso Mosimane will receive millions in compensation

Pitso Mosimane will be smiling all the way to the bank after taking his former Middle East football club to the FIFA tribunal for unfair dismissal. The former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns coach was awarded R22 million in compensation for a breach of contract by Saudi Arabian team Al Ahli Jeddah. The money includes bonuses and outstanding salaries that the club owes him for five months.

HE PUT THE CLUB ON THE MAP

Mosimane joined the team on 24 September 2022 on a contract that would have lasted until 2023, with an option to renew it. The 59-year-old tactician also helped Al Ahli to gain promotion back to the top after they had been relegated for the first time in their history. The former Al Ahly coach also included a clause that if he gained promotion, he would be paid bonuses and his deal would automatically be extended.

Mosimane, who earned R22.5 million net as annual salary for the 2022/23 season, said he was not paid for five months while he coached the team.

HIS WIFE'S AIR TICKET WAS PART OF THE DEAL

Managed by his wife Moira Tlhagale-Mosimane, Mosimane's contract also included four return business class flight tickets between Jeddah and Johannesburg. The former Bafana coach is currently in Saudi Arabia coaching Abha Club on a contract that runs until the end of the 2023/2024 season. Mosimane started his coaching career at SuperSport United from 1 July 2001 until 30 June 2007. Mosimane has never looked back ever since and his accolades include being the only local coach to win three CAF Champions League titles with Egyptian giants, Al Ahly and Sundowns.
