Bafana Bafana striker Percy Tau has reportedly left Egyptian giants Al Ahly after the two parties reached a mutual agreement that will see the 30-year-old almost R10 million richer.
A LUCRATIVE DEAL
According to Egyptian media, as reported by Soccer Laduma, Tau rejected the club's attempt to sell him and requested to have his contract terminated on condition that the remainder of his three-year-contract valued at over R11 million, be paid to him. It's reported that after negotiations, the club and the player agreed on a payment of R9.4 million. Tau, who joined the club in 2021 after being recruited by his former coach Pitso Mosimane, had signed a lucrative contract with the club that would have seen him paid R23 million annually. According to Egyptian media reports, his salary would then increase by R1.9 million in the first year, R2.8 million in the second, and then R3.8 million in the final year.
HE MIGHT JOIN PITSO MOSIMANE IN IRAN
Tau, who is Kaizer Chiefs' target since the transfer window opened on January 1, may join his former coach, Pitso Mosimane. Mosimane has reportedly asked his club, Esteghlal FC in Iran, to sign Tau after he left the Red Devils, while Al Ahly has shown interest in signing Brazilian star Ewerton from Ostrava in the Czech League to replace him. Tau joined Al Ahly from the English team Brighton in a deal worth R30m. Meanwhile, former Kaizer Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral has been appointed as the head coach of Cape Town City for the remainder of the 2024/25 season. This is after the exit of Eric Tinkler as City head coach on December 31. Ertugral steps down as the team's technical director. He returns as the coach in the PSL after four years as a technical advisor for the Turkish national team.
