She left the now-defunct Massiv Metro online, a station formerly headed by DJ Sibusiso "Sbu' Leope to join Radio 2000 last year. Seasoned TV and radio presenter Penny Lebyane firmly had her grip on Sunday's 3-6pm slot on the SABC station, discussing all things lifestyle, spirituality and wellness. But the renowned host is said to have resigned from her show #InspiredSundays with immediate effect.
OFF-AIR
She has been off the air for a few weeks from her radio show and listeners assumed she had been off sick and her timeslot was occupied by a stand-in. But an insider at the SABC has revealed to ZiMoja that "The Phly One,' as she is known among her fans, has handed in her resignation and will not be returning to the station. "She did not go into detail in her letter, but it was with immediate effect,' the source said. "As you know, Penny doesn't really stand for anything that goes out of her high values. She is an amazing presenter and person, and she didn't want to get into the reasons behind why she had to leave so abruptly,' added the source.
REASONS
The station has not confirmed her departure and has not responded to our queries on the matter. "She's dealing with some personal issues and she needs time off. There is a lot happening in her life, and this is just one,' a colleague said. When called to confirm her reasons for leaving the station just over a year into her thriving show, Penny did not wish to discuss anything. "I won't comment on anything. I just need my space. I'm not saying anything,' she said.
