CRIMEWATCH: Pastor sentenced for raping boy

The pastor was found guilty for the rape last month

KWAZULU NATAL: A pastor who is also a soccer coach was sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Verulam Regional Court on Wednesday for raping a 9-year-old boy. According to Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the incident took place in September 2023 when the victim and his friend spent the night at 57-year-old David Mkhanyisi Ntshulana's house after a football practice. During the night, the victim woke up in pain with Ntshulana naked next to him but pleaded his innocence. The following morning, the soccer coach took the victim and his friend to the church where he is a pastor. "The victim later told his friend about the traumatic experience, and his friend advised him to inform his mother. A case of rape was subsequently opened," Netshiunda said. 


NORTHERN CAPE: Faiz Nordien has been sentenced to an effective 5-year direct imprisonment by the Kimberley Serious Commercial Crime Court for fraud and forgery. Nordien (37) was arrested in February 2019 by the Hawks serious commercial crime investigation team after he used a car belonging to the bank to secure a loan at a pawn shop. Warrant Officer Nomthandazo Mnisi said during April 2018, Nordein unlawfully and intentionally stole a Ford Figo vehicle to the value of R 116 699, which is lawfully owned by the bank, and used it as security to secure a loan. "The accused presented fraudulent registration documents and a vehicle to a pawn shop owner, which was later sold to another person when Nordein failed to pay off his debt. He was found guilty and sentenced to three years direct imprisonment on count one of fraud and two years' imprisonment on count two of forgery. He will serve an effective five-year direct imprisonment.


NORTH WEST: A 40-year-old man has been arrested for the alleged murder of his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend in Marikana Section in Christiana on Thursday. According to reports, a quarrel ensued after the suspect went to his ex-girlfriend's place at Utlwanang township and found her with the victim, aged 31. Colonel Amanda Funani said the suspect allegedly fatally stabbed the victim to death and dragged him to the bushes. There, it is alleged that the suspect severed the victim's legs and removed his private parts before disposing of the body in the river. " The ex-girlfriend reported her boyfriend missing to the police, who followed up after getting information that the suspect was seen pushing a wheelbarrow towards the river."As a result, police divers were summoned to search for the victim, and his upper body and a leg were retrieved from the river on Thursday. A search continued on Friday, 27 September 2024, and the parts that included a leg and the other parts were recovered," Funani said. The suspect is expected to appear in the Christiana Magistrates' Court on Monday for murder.
