Ugandan born self-proclaimed prophet and Prayer Worship Fellowship leader Joel Joseph Sali is embroiled in an unholy war with his South African born wife Mandisa over claims of infidelity. So intense is the fight between the couple that they have each opened cases of assault and assault GBH (Grevious Bodily Harm) against each. The couple allegedly had a serious domestic squabble that saw the use of a knife, smashing of gadgets and furniture at their matrimonial home in Midrand.
ANGERED BY THE PROPHET BLUSHING AND LAUGHING ON PHONE
According to police statements seen by ZiMoja, the drama started on Friday 6 October 2023 when his wife Mandisa got Sali arrested for assault claiming that he beat her up and broke her jaws after she confronted him about his cheating ways. In her statement, she states that Prophet Sali (34) arrived home late on Friday after he had disappeared the whole day from their marital home without an explanation. She said upon his arrival, he got busy on his phone for hours blushing and laughing, an indication which she claimed was proof that he was talking to his girlfriends on the phone. The statement shows that Mandisa (28) confronted Prophet Sali demanding to know why he had been glued to his phone ever since he had arrived home without talking to her and that led to an argument which later turned physical.
SMASHED CELLPHONE AND FURNITURE
In the same statement, Mandisa said the Prophet could not answer her and he instead started beating her saying that she must stay out of his business.
"He also smashed my cellphone on the floor and everything in the house out of anger because I asked him about his girlfriends which he was talking to on the phone," she said in the statement. Following the opening of the case by his wife, Prophet Sali was arrested and released on bail and told appear before the Midrand Magistrate court on Monday. However, after his first court appearance, the Prophet, who also has a branch in Rustenburg, turned to Midrand Police Station to lay a counter charge against his wife for assault with intent to do grevious bodily harm. As a result of this case, Mandisa was picked up by the police on Monday to face the charges laid by her husband and she spent a night in police cells at Midrand Police Station.
PROPHET CLAIMS WIFE STABBED HIM WITH KNIFE
In his statement, also seen by ZiMoja, Sali accused his wife of stabbing him on his right hand with a knife during an argument in which she accused him of cheating. He said his wife had provoked him while he was busy on his phone, pestering him to respond to her accusations, which he denied. He said she became unsatisfied with his response and started assaulting him on his body arguing that he tried to stop her from beating him. The prophet, according to the statement, said his wife later went and picked up a knife from their kitchen and tried to stab him several times on his body but with no success. However, he said she later pushed him and stabbed him on his right hand, which left him bleeding and with torn clothes.
HOPE TO RESOLVE MARITAL DISPUTE
Responding to why he opened his case only after his wife got him arrested, Prophet Sali, according to the statement, said he had thought he and his wife would be able to resolve their marital differences like any other couple, but said he was shocked when his wife rocked up with the police to arrest him. According to those close to the couple, their marriage has been living on borrowed time as they are believed to have been constantly fighting over allegations of infidelity levelled against the Prophet. Another source also claimed that Mandisa has been trying to divorce the Prophet after she found out that the man of God had allegedly concealed certain things about his life when they started dating. However, the source said every time she brought up the issue that she wanted to file for divorce, he would plead with her and promise to change to save their marriage. Mandisa confirmed the two cases and said the matter was now resolved. "Both charges have been dropped and we are now trying to solve this things as a family," she said. The Prophet's wife said the two families are trying to come up with a solution to their issues.
POLICE CONFIRM CASES AND ARRESTS
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed that two cases of assault were opened by the couple at Midrand police station and he said the two matters are currently before the Midrand Magistrates Court. "The couple opened counter charges against each other. The wife opened a case of common assault and malicious damage to property while the husband opened a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after he was allegedly stabbed by the wife. Both the husband and wife were arrested and later released on bail."
