It has been three years since Anele "Nelly" Tembe passed away. Anele, who was the fiance to slain rapper AKA, died on 11 April 2021 after falling from the 10th floor at the Pepper Club Hotel in Cape Town. How and why, Anele fell still remains a mystery and an investigation is still pending.
THE LIBRARY
Originally designed by Andrea Kleinloog, the library at Anele's old school, Durban Girls' College, was her favourite place to visit and she was passionate about the school culture. Anele's family recently donated to the renewal of the library in her memory. The library is now a chic and modern place for youth to spend their time. "This was something very dear to her heart. She loved education and reading. We know doing something like this will appease her," her brother Vukile told ZiMoja. "Anele's school has a legacy of over 100 years. Investing in something that will last a lifetime in her honour and brings us joy knowing we contributed to something dear to her."
GRIEF
Since her passing almost three years ago, Vukile says the family has taken things one step at a time. "There is not a day that passes without us thinking about her," he says. "Grief is not easy, no one wants to bury their child. However, we have received great support from people around us and we have been focusing on our healing and trying to move forward and keep her legacy alive."
