She was in line to be one of the contestants on Tropika Island of Treasure Season 11 and stood a chance to win R1 million but reality TV star, actress, and now TV producer Omuhle Gela has since pulled out of the competition series and left them high and dry for an acting gig.
PULLING OUT
Hosted by radio and TV personality, Zanele Potelwa, the series will see the likes of Ndavi Nokeri, actor Hungani Ndlovu, dancer Chad Jones and singer Bobby van Jaarsveld compete. The mom of one explained in a statement that it was a difficult decision to make but needed to be done to avoid a clash in what she is currently working on. "After much consideration and discussion with my acting agent, management team and production, it has become apparent that my involvement in a new upcoming television series will conflict with the shooting schedule for Tropika Island Of Treasure." She extended her deepest apologies to their entire team and those who were rooting for her.
Omuhle said following a year-long break, her team has given careful thought to her next professional steps. "It is with sincere and heartfelt gratitude that I express my appreciation for the opportunity to be part of Tropika Island Of Treasure and I was eagerly anticipating the show," she said. "However, we have concluded that prioritising a longer acting contract in my professional field is in my best interest." She said she was grateful for the opportunity and wished everyone well.
NEW WORK
In a previous interview with ZiMoja, Omuhle expressed that she wanted to dump the 'pretty girl' stigma and show her true talents this year. In the new production, she said she plays the role of a young woman who recently got married to a businessman but encounters some challenges. "She sees flames in the marriage." Omuhle said she could relate to the character as she has in the past been in toxic relationships. "I've had my fair share of heartbreaks. I have been burnt. I can relate to some of the things she goes through but not all of them."
