The North Gauteng High Court has learned that alleged notes made by Constable Sizwe Zungu detailing events after Senzo Meyiwa was killed did not exist. After giving his testimony on Friday Zungu was ordered by the presiding judge to go both his homes in Kwa Zulu Natal and Tembisa and fetch the notes he claimed he jotted down after the murder.
Zungu told the court that he made a handwritten statement which was later typed. State Advocate George Baloyi addressed the court on this. "The investigating officer, however, informs me that the notes were shredded, destroyed after the statement was made," he said. Zungu explained that the only statement he made, was the one he presented in court which, was made on 31 May 2023. After all was said judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng found that the notes or the statement did not exist.
Zungu's life was threatened by one of the accused in court on Thursday. The judge expressed concern wether he would make it back to court on Monday, which he did. It was accused number five Fisokuhle Ntuli who made threatening gestures to the witness but in turn received a stern warning from the judge.
The trial continues today.
