Financial troubles deepen for Drip owner Lekau Sehoana

Lekau Sehoana's furniture were attached by the sheriff of the court

It appears that Lekau Sohoana, the extravagant businessman and owner of the five-year-old sneaker brand Drip, is facing even more difficulties. After ZiMoja reported on Sunday that his family was evicted from a luxurious villa at Waterfall Estate in Midrand due to failure to keep up with monthly rentals of R35,000, it has been revealed that some of his belongings, including furniture, were seized by the Sheriff of the Court last week Thursday.

OWING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS FOR MAINTANANCE

The Sheriff attached two fridges, dining sets, tables and chairs, couches, two flat screen TVs, and fashionable chairs, which are placed next to the swimming pool at his house at an estate in Fourways. This is the same house in which he allegedly kicked his wife and son out after claiming that it was due for renovations before he initiated divorce proceedings. The furniture was attached on Thursday, a day before he celebrated Drip's 5th year anniversary on Friday. Things are so bad for the high-flying businessman that his son was thrown out of school after he failed to pay school fees for several months, and his wife alleges he owes her more than R450k in maintenance for their son. Speaking to ZiMoja last week, Sehoana's wife Lebohang Machaba said she was tired of Sehoana's tricks. "As we speak, his very own son is homeless and out of school with no food and no clothes. He even got a court order to pay maintenance and take responsibility, as he has not for years. In March, he boldly lied during the launch of Claws sneakers, saying his kids will remain in school regardless of the liquidation case against him, knowing very well that his son has been staying at home for years and he had a maintenance court order against him.

DEFENDING HIMSELF

But the controversial businessman has come out to defend himself. In a statement, Sehoana denied having lived with Lebohang for the past three years, despite court papers in ZiMoja's possession showing that he rented the property in Waterfall for her and their son in June 2022 for six months. When the lease expired, he rented the place on a month-to-month basis until he defaulted on payments in November and December last year. He also said his legal team had asked that he not mention anything about his divorce. He said in a statement: "I have noted media outlets running with the story that I, my soon-to-be ex-wife, and my son were evicted out of a property in Waterfall. The story is factually incorrect, and it is intended to divert the public's attention from Drip's five-year celebration," the statement read. He added that he was renting the property for his soon-to-be ex-wife in order to provide a home for his son. He said he cancelled the lease agreement after he was informed by the landlord that they found out that Machaba had sublet the property to people he didn't and without his or the landlord's consent. In the court papers filed by Waterfall Residents Developments at the South Gauteng High court in February this year, the property developers said that Sehoana was staying at the property and that they have on a number of occasions tried to reach out to him to settle his rent to no avail. At the time of filing the court papers, the developers said Sehoana owed them almost R100 000 in rental payments which they were fighting him to pay. On Sunday, Sehanoa's childhood shack, which he transformed into a pop-up store, was broken into. The businessman said that he knew that was going to happen and left books at the shack, of which he said a few were stolen.
