Ngizwe Mchunu to know his fate on Friday

The court will hand down Ngizwe Mchunu's judgement on Friday

Friday is a big day for former Ukhozi FM presenter, Ngizwe Mchunu. The Randburg Magistrates Court will deliver its judgment on whether he faces jail time, pays a fine or is set free. Mchunu, one of the most popular media personalities in KwaZulu-Natal, faces charges of inciting public violence and violating the Disaster Management Act. It's alleged that on 11 July 2021 while in Sandton, Mchunu incited violence after the arrest of former President Jacob Zuma. The insurrection affected Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal provinces.

FINANCIAL STRAINS

A few weeks ago, ZiMoja reported that he was struggling financially amid an ongoing court case that has been going on for more than two years. Mchunu, a staunch Zuma supporter will hear from the court if he will spend Christmas with his family in Nkandla or behind bars. Before his arrest, he was one of the personalities who was hired to MC gigs and other corporate events in KZN. Since his case had been ongoing, he hardly gets gigs. After his arrest, Mchunu had people who funded his trips from Nkandla to attend his court proceedings in Randburg.  The repeated postponements did not make things easier for him since funders backed down, according to a source. The source said then: "Remember that he needs to arrange accommodation, buy petrol and pay legal fees. He is broken and his supporters are nowhere to be seen." The source said at the time, that he was even avoiding being with his friends.

HOPING FOR THE JUDGMENT TO FAVOUR HIM

The source said, "Ngizwe is hoping that the verdict favours him. If it does, he will face the media and criticise the government for unlawful arrest.

He plans on suing the state if he wins. He will use the same platform to bash his fake friends who dumped him in the middle of the trial," the source said. His matter was postponed last month, where judgment was expected to be handed down. At the time, National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mojonondwane said that the case was postponed for studying the heads of argument and the handing down. When called for comment Mchunu said he would cross the bridge when he got there. "Sizobona phambili," he said before hanging up.
