Former Ukhozi FM presenter, Ngizwe Mchunu is said to be struggling financially amid ongoing court case. He is facing charges of incitement to commit public violence and breaching the Disaster Management Act in connection with the 2021 July riots that affected Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal.

COURT CASE TAKING A TOLL ON HIM

It appears that Mchunu’s controversial statements are beginning to catch up with him. Sources close to him have informed ZiMoja that his ongoing court case at the Randburg Magistrates Court has taken a toll on his finances. The source revealed that the repeated postponements of the case have been financially challenging for Ngizwe, who frequently travels between Durban and Johannesburg for the proceedings. "Remember that he needs to arrange accommodations, buy petrol, and pay legal fees. He is broken and his supporters are nowhere to be seen," said the source.

ASHAMED TO FACE HIS FRIENDS

The source added that he missed his friend’s pre-wedding ceremony called indishi last weekend. The ceremony involves friends gathering where they would contribute money to their friend’s new makoti and place the cash inside a big dish. The source adds that Ngizwe decided not to go to the ceremony as he would not have cash to offer. "The men would be gifting their friend’s new wife with cash, some contribute as much as R50 000 or more and as it stands, I don’t think he will be able to afford to give away such an amount. He wanted to avoid feeling left out and embarrassed," the source said. "It’s like a game and it can be expensive, with amounts going up to R50k to R100k," he said.

TRYING TO KEEP LOW PROFILE

The source reveals that he is now attempting to maintain a low profile. His involvement in the case resulted in a negative reputation, causing brands to avoid being associated with him. "He is attempting to rebrand and keep a low profile due to negative publicity," said the source. When called for comment, Ngizwe admitted that the case has been costly. "But that is not something I want to discuss with the media, I don’t like and trust media," he said.
