The pastor has been accused of budging into the Magwaza house in Protea Glen, Soweto, and take his son and leave, without talking to anyone. Mbalenhle Magwaza says she decided to confront the pastor about his behaviour as she could not stand her family home being disrespected. To her shock, the pastor who was dating her sister allegedly assaulted her and threatened to do it again if she questions him again.
Magwaza says she believes the pastor is doing all this because they don't have parents. Magwaza told ZiMoja that Pastor Given Nzaza assaulted her because she told him to stop coming into their family home and do as he pleases. "Given was dating my sister and they have a child together. My sin was to tell him that he must respect our home. He always comes into the house fetches his child and goes without saying anything to anyone. I feel like he is being disrespectful because we don't have parents," she said. She added that this had been bothering her for some time and she decided to put an end to it.
On Sunday evening, when pastor Nzaza brought back the child, Magwaza says she confronted him and asked him why he was behaving in that manner. "Given failed to explain his manners towards our home. I told him not to set foot in my home again because his relationship with my sister ended eight months ago. I told him he must call and wait outside the gate if he wants to come and fetch his child. That is when he lost it and started beating me up. At some stage, we were fighting over a knife I nearly stabbed him but ended up throwing it away. He is not a good person as it was not the first time he beat a woman up. He used to beat my sister all the time when they were dating. I even told the church elders about the abusive relationship he had with my sister but they swept it under the carpet," she said. Magwaza told ZiMoja that she opened a case of assault at Protea Glen on Sunday. When Nzaza was contacted for comment, he hung up. Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo said Nzaza handed himself over to the police on Tuesday and he appeared before the Protea Magistrates Court on Wednesday facing a charge of assault. He was released on bail and will be back in court tomorrow.
