It seems like the behind-the-scenes drama around Muvhango will not go away. Just when fans were anticipating watching a new episode of the revamped telenovela, they were left disappointed when SABC 2 replayed old episodes.

NEW FOOTAGE WAS SUBMITTED

The last episode of the soapie aired on 2 July, with the public broadcaster replaying old episodes as they were still negotiating contracts with the show's production company. The SABC and Word of Mouth Pictures, owned by Duma Ndlovu, launched the new revamped Muvhango two weeks ago and also introduced new actors, including Leleti Khumalo. Sources close to the situation said it is not Muvhango's fault that it was not aired last night as anticipated. According to the source, the production company submitted their material to the SABC on time. "Actors were shocked when the new episode was not played on Monday as promised. They played an old episode. We did not understand what was happening or what the reason was for not airing the new episodes," said an informant.

OLYMPIC EXCUSE

According to another source, the problem was with the SABC; hence, they had to downplay the situation and blame the fact that the Olympics were still on; hence, they played an old episode. "If they played the current Olympics, things would have been better. But playing an old episode of Muvhango while work was submitted, that was a bit strange," said one actor from the same soapie. Word of Mouth spokesperson Thanduxolo Jindela said Muvhango had nothing to do with the latest drama. "Why don't you call the SABC since it's their platform or ask your source what happened?" he said before dropping the phone. When called for a comment, SABC2 publicist Caroline Phalakatshela said there was a schedule change about Muvhango due to the Olympics, but when ZiMoja asked why they played old episodes instead of new ones, she said: "We did inform viewers that due to the Olympics, we will play a new season next week,' she added.
