Tebogo Thobejane's nightmare of hiding after she was shot in October last year will soon be over. The former Muvhango actress, who was nearly killed when her car was allegedly shot at by unknown assailants last year, went to hide in Dubai. In a turn of events this week, a suspect who allegedly shot her was arrested.
A SENSE OF RELIEF
Speaking to ZiMoja, Thobejane said she was relieved that someone would finally be held accountable for her shooting. "As a woman, it's disheartening to live in fear due to the unknown," she said. Thobejane was coming from Saints Champagne Lounge in Sandton, around 11 PM with a friend and their driver when three men pulled up and shot at their car. At the time, the club hostess told ZiMoja that this was the last thing she expected after coming back to South Africa from Paris. She was travelling between the two countries for almost a year. Thobejane escaped the incident unharmed but one of her friends she was travelling with was wounded and rushed to the hospital. She was also admitted to hospital for shock. Thobejane also told ZiMoja last year that she believed that the shooting was an attempt on her life. "It did not look like it was a robbery or an attempted hijacking. I have my suspicions- it looked like a hit."
GRATEFUL FOR LIFE
She says now that someone has been arrested, she hopes to lead a normal life here in Mzansi and not hide anymore. She even went to the extent of praising members of SA Police Service from Sandton police station for making an arrest. "The recent events have been deeply distressing, witnessing someone close recover from such trauma. However, I am a living testament to the amazing resilience of the human spirit and the unwavering support of both divine intervention and the diligent efforts of the Sandton police force," she said. After the incident, Thobejane left the country for her safety and went to Dubai but admits that life isn't as glamorous as it seems when everything is so expensive. "Even a simple burger costs about R300 in Dubai compared to Mzansi. All I desire is to find happiness with my family and lead a peaceful life here at home," she said. Gauteng Police Spokesperson, Colonel Noxolo Kweza, confirmed that a suspect was apprehended and he will appear in court next Monday.
