Music legend and MP nearly loses his son in accident

Eugene Mthethwa says he is greatful his son is out of danger

EFF member and music legend Eugene Mthethwa was forced to leave work and rush to hospital after his son was involved in an accident. Mthethwa is one of the founding members of kwaito group, Trompies, who is now a politician. 


THE ACCIDENT


The accident happened days before the Economic Freedom Fighters' (EFF) big event happening in Durban this weekend. Sources close to the situation said Mthethwa was forced to fly back home to be with his son before going back to Durban,where the EFF is hosting the first KwaZulu-Natal Creative Industry Dialogue. Mthethwa is one of the main speakers at the event taking place tomorrow at the Raddison Blu in Mhlanga. He will be addressing EFF supporters and KZN creatives.

According to a source close to the situation, his so n, ayoung adult, had an accident while driving with friends. The details of the accident remain sketchy but ZiMoja has learnt that he fell off a moving bakkie and cracked his skull. Fortunately for him, he survived brain damage because he was wearing a helmet. "God is great. He is lucky to be alive because things could have turned dire," said the source. Another source said the politician's son could not speak but after doctors attended to him, his condition drastically improved. 


MTHETHWA CONFIRMS


Mthethwa said he initially panicked when he first heard the news.The outspoken MP confirmed the news of his son's near-death experience but said he is grateful to the almighty that he is stable. "Anyone who knows me, know that I don't talk about my personal life in the media, but I can confirm that my son is recovering. Im grateful to the Almighty God I serve," he said. Despite his family issues, Mthethwa said work is crucial, and he is looking forward to engaging the public this weekend. "We are hosting one of the important events which will be convened by EFF Deputy President, Floyd Shivambu. We have invited all the creative - from DJs, poets, designers, social media influencers, dancers and so forth," he added.


PREPARING FOR HIS UPCOMING BIRTHDAY BASH


According to another source, the news of his son's accident comes just as Mthethwa is gearing up for his highly anticipated birthday celebration. The birthday party, will take place on October 27 at the popular hangout spot: 4Rizon in Fourways, north of Joburg. The line-up for the gig includes Thebe, Oskido, DJ Cleo, DJ Sbu, Jakarumba, Trompies, DJ Clap and the legendary DJ Ganyani. When asked about preparing for the big birthday bash, he said, " I hardly host parties, but I am looking forward to this one. It is going to be more like a reunion for me. Most of my industry friends will be there and some will be performing,"
