Maskandi singer Mthandeni "Igcokama Elisha" Manqele has finally responded to the mic-grabbing incident that happened between him and Ukhozi FM radio presenter Zimiphi "Zimdollar" Biyela at the Mother of All Maskandi Music Festival. The festival took place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban in KwaZulu Natal on Saturday.
"WE DON'T HATE EACH OTHER'
The Paris hitmaker responded to the incident yesterday shortly after his performance at the Inkatha Freedom Party Manifesto launch that Ulundi Stadium. Speaking to a maskandi podcast, Mthandeni said: "I would like to apologise on behalf of Zimdollar to the Red Nations (His followers), music fans, sponsors and South Africa at large. Zimdollar does not hate me and I don't hate her. I know the behind that I hit in the darkness. I will never be too forward about it in public. I will hit it again in the darkness." (Ngiyasazi isinqa engijwayele ukusishaya ebumnyameni, futhi angeke ngisiphaphele phambi kwabantu. Ngizophinde ngishaye futhi khona ebumnyameni). On Saturday, during the festival, Zimdollar ,who was the MC, was seen in a video going on stage and snatching the microphone from Mthandeni as he is about to start performing a song and telling him to 'voets*k!'.
TURN OF EVENTS
Speaking to Ukhozi FM on Monday Mthandeni said, "Zimdollar continues to speak nonsense about me and I'm not going to respond to her utterances. As people know that we come from different families, I think Zimdollar is having relationship or personal problems. All I can do is to apologise to the event organisers and maskandi music fans. I was coming from Johannesburg, when we landed in Durban it was raining and I was delayed and arrived at the venue at 19:30. when I was supposed to be on stage at 19:00. I want to apologise for that and it was the first time I arrived late for an event in Durban. I'm sorry to the whole Zulu nation for the manner Zimdollar behaved."
HE MISSED HIS TURN
Zimdollar later explained that Mthandeni was booked and paid to perform at the event but that he arrived late and it was the turn of the top 30 artists in the competition to perform. "He missed his turn and there was no more time. He pretended to be leaving with his team, then jumped on stage with his dancers and deejay. They chased away the deejay that was booked by the event organisers and the next thing we heard was Mthandeni performing." she said. Mthandeni managed to perform Wamubi Kamnandi and Paris before saying his goodbyes. That is where all hell broke loose between him and Zimdollar. Mthandeni was quickly whisked away by his team as it seemed there was a commotion between him and the radio presenter. Zimdollar had to take a few steps back as Mthandeni followers began throwing cans at the MC demanding that the singer comes back and says his goodbyes properly.
