Actress, mental-wellness activist, mom and businesswoman Mona Monyane does not hold back when it comes to expressing her thoughts. She has been open about her life’s wins and battles. In her life journey, she has shed light on mental-well, depression and physical health. She recently detailed the methods that have helped her to be a better mother. That includes living a healthy life and losing weight.
EATING RIGHT AND EXERCISING
She maintains that self-discipline leads to results, depending on how badly you want to make that change. "Watch what you eat and listen to your body,’ she says. "Basop (be careful), if overindulging in wheat, dairy, processed foods, sugar, junk food, in alcohol," she warns. "You need to look at what you drink, eat and be active. You can’t sit every day, you need to be active, hike and walk." Also, you don’t need to eat three meals a day, eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full and cook your own nutritious meals."
GETTING RID OF TOXIC HABITS
She previously opened up about how motherhood affected the shape of her body and weight. "I need to remind you that I had babies four and five years ago." And it’s taken all of those years for her to get her body back! "Don’t be so hard on yourself, work on the emotions, the bad thoughts, the toxic habits you hold onto. Work on the internal issues that lead to external issues," she says. "I lost weight because I started working on the inside. It’s not some secret diet or exercise regime. I’m looking this good because I feel good. I just make better choices for myself that pay off externally too."
HEALING
Mona separated from the father of her children and actor Khulu Skenjana in 2020 after being married for four years. Their first daughter, Ase-Ahadi Skenjana was born in August 2016 and they welcomed their second baby girl, Amani-Amaza Wamazulu Skenjana on the 16th of November 2017. Amani-Amaza passed away just seven days after she was born in 2017. In 2019, her family lost their house after it went up in flames.
