A weekend of bloodshed in Umlazi

Police in Umlazi are seeking suspects after five people were killed

The police in KwaZulu-Natal have launched a manhunt for an unknown number of suspects after five people were shot and killed at three different locations at Uganda Informal Settlement in Umlazi, north of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, on Sunday night. 


MOTIVE UNKNOWN


The provincial police say the motive behind the killings is unknown at this stage. One man survived the shooting with gunshot wounds and he is currently in hospital. KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said that when police arrived at the first house, the bodies of a 32-year-old man and a woman who is yet to be identified and believed to be in her early 30s were found with multiple gunshot wounds at the scene. 


MORE BODIES DISCOVERED AT A DIFFERENT HOUSE


Netshiunda said at the second house, police found two bodies of women aged 30 and 38 years old, as well as a body of a 24-year-old man. All three bodies had multiple gunshot wounds and were also pronounced dead at the scene. "A 32-year-old man was also shot at his house but survived the shooting with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital for immediate medical treatment. The motive behind the shootings has not yet been established and anyone with information regarding the killings and possible suspects is urged to contact the Umlazi police station or anonymously via the crime stop number 08600 10111.
