Award-winning maskandi artist Khuzani 'Gatsheni' Ndlovu is considering the taxi industry after he won a minibus taxi during the Mother of All Maskandi Music Festival two weeks ago. The musician, whose song Hit After Hit ,has been topping the charts since late last year says he never expected to win such a big prize.
WINNING A TAXI
He received most votes for the annual Mother of All Maskandi Music Festival Best Song beating the likes of Ntwencane, Menzi and Thokozani Langa to name a few. After being announced as the winner of the minibus taxi, Gatsheni says he did not want to raise his hopes high as he was not sure the organisers will fulfil their promise and give him the taxi.
"Sometimes people make promises they don't keep. I'm grateful for winning this and it is all from my followers. If it wasn't for them and their support, I would not be a taxi owner today," he said. Gatsheni won the minibus taxi worth more than R700 000 beating 30 maskandi artists. "Honestly speaking, I never expected to win a taxi although I knew that my song is big at the moment. I know that people are appreciating Hit After Hit and I also appreciate their support. Without them, I wouldn't be here. Respect of my craft is what has gotten me this far, people must respect their craft and they will be rewarded for it," he said.
TAXI BOSS
Gatsheni said that he was considering becoming a taxi boss. "Becoming a businessman has always been my plan for years. I am currently selling goats and sheep. I'm considering becoming a taxi boss and the long-distance route is the one that has money. I've always wanted to become independent and be able to provide for my family. Music is a short-lived career so the more I invest in business, the more money I can make," he said. Gatsheni is currently the most booked maskandi artist, after Paris hitmaker Mthandeni Manqele.
