The police are looking for a suspect who fatally shot a woman as she was about to board a Metrobus in Fleurhof, outside Roodepoort in Gauteng this morning.

A HIT?

SAPS spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo said the 40-year-old woman was boarding the bus when she was met by a hail of bullets. "It is alleged the suspect was in the bus as it stopped at the bus stop. As the woman was about to get into the bus, the suspect fired several shots at her. It is further reported that after the shooting, the suspect jumped into the vehicle and sped off," he said. The suspected shooter reportedly fled the scene in a white sedan without license plates. City of Joburg Transport MMC Kenny Kunene said the update they have is a conversation they had with the driver and passengers. "This is a clear hit; the lady was targeted, and we know she works at a bank. We already spoke to her family and husband," Kunene said. He said the deceased managed to run away with the other passengers who were still outside. "They went around the bus and the lady fell and eyewitnesses are saying that the suspect missed the deceased with his first two shots, he fired two more shots as they were running around the bus and finally while she was on the ground he fired two more shots."

METROBUS SADDENED

In response to the incident, Metrobus released a statement expressing their sadness over the tragic event. The bus was traveling on Boabab Street in Fleurhof, en route to Sandton, when the shooting occurred. "Metrobus wishes to convey its concern for commuters who witnessed this incident and to express solidarity with the family of the deceased commuter,". The bus company said it would avail all its resources to assist the authorities in investigating this criminal incident. "This incident happens at a time when Metrobus has recorded a positive track record of safety over many years. The safety of our commuters remains a top priority,".
