The police have launched a manhunt for five suspects who allegedly hijacked former Banyana Banyana captain Portia Modise on Saturday. Modise was hijacked at gunpoint outside her White City home in Soweto.
ESCAPED UNHARMED
Modise, the top goal scorer for Banyana Banyana with 100 goals, couldn't dribble her way past the gunmen who threatened her with violence if she resisted. To save her life, Modise surrendered her blue Volkswagen Polo Golf 5. Luckily, she escaped the traumatic experience unharmed. Modise took to Facebook and recorded a video in which she appealed to the community to recover her car. "Yesterday, when I got home, there were guys at my gate who hijacked me; they were young boys. I am not okay. I couldn't sleep. I need my car back. I need help from you guys to find my car," she shared.
MANHUNT FOR THE SUSPECTS
Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed that police are still searching for the two suspects. "Police are on the lookout for the suspects and car after the former Banyana Banyana soccer player was hijacked in White City, Soweto, on Saturday evening," he said. According to Masondo, Modise was driving out of the yard when she noticed five males in front of the gate. "She asked the suspects to move so that she could drive past. It was then that she was pointed with firearms and hijacked. Two of the suspects drove away with the victim's VW Golf 5, while the other three got into the VW Silver Polo and sped off," he said. He added that Modise was also robbed of her cellphone, and no shots were fired.
