The police have arrested a man who is suspected of murdering the mother of his child, who is a minor. It is believed that the 27-year-old suspect stabbed Nosipho Khomo four times before fleeing the scene.

HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABUSIVE

Nosipho (16), from Hammarsdale township outside Durban in KwaZulu Natal, had a child with the suspect when she was only 14 years old. According to Khomo's older sister, Sthembile Gasa (20), Nosipho, who dropped out of high school when she fell pregnant, was in an abusive relationship, and her family had no power to help her as they were scared of Tari. "We knew that he would kill her one day because he was always abusive towards her. The things he has done to my sister are horrible. He used to come here at home to demand Nosipho go to his house by force. When she refused, he would beat her up or threaten her," she said.

HE STABBED HER BEFORE

Gasa said that Nosipho's boyfriend disrespected their family because there was no male figure. "He knew that at home it's just me, Nosipho, and our sickly mother since many of our relatives are no more. We rely on one of our neighbour Mr Mkhwanazi, who looks after us. Our neighbour tried on numerous occasions to intervene in the abuse of Nosipho, but all his attempts fell on deaf ears. It was long coming that one day this boy was going to kill Nosipho," Gasa said. She added that the man stabbed her sister last year December on New Year's Eve and that she spent days in the hospital. "When she came back from the hospital, they continued dating and refused to open a case against him," the sister said.

SUSPECT ARRESTED

KZN SAPS spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed that police have arrested a man in a case where a 16-year-old teenager was stabbed to death. "The victim was stabbed to death on Tuesday. The victim sustained multiple stab wounds to the head. The suspect will appear in court soon," she said.
