The festive season is a busy time for celebrities, musicians, and dancers, as they get to travel for bookings doing what they love. Like any star, popular choreographer and dancer to the stars, Nthuthuko Kelvin Silosana famously known as Calvin Candiano was looking forward to spending the festive season gigging. But his life was cut short after falling ill.
LOSS
A friend who has worked loosely with Calvin says they found out that he died on Friday morning 24 November after feeling ill. "Calvin was sick for a long time. His illness was on and off," the friend says. "He never disclosed his condition to us but we had days when he would be ill and then be okay. We were told that he started feeling sick for some time. He used to dance with Makhadzi but he left and he returned to her team while he was ill and he was working on being healthy again." Makhadzi who is still mourning the loss of her friend and actress Lebogang "Khelina" Mpyana expressed her grief in a statement saying that she is saddened by his passing. "I'm at a loss for words. I can't talk right now." Her manager Lucky Tshilimandila said: "Calvin was a brother and great performer that we enjoyed working with, we ass Makhadzi Entertainment will assure that his memory lives on and that he is honoured."
WITCHCRAFT?
Controversial overnight social media sensation Bongani Mabozza who once accused DJ Maphorisa of engaging in sexual activities with male artists he works with has blamed witchcraft for Calvin's death. "Calvin was gay, he loved men. He was an amazing dancer. No one could dance like that kid," Bongani says. "The problem is that he went to dance for Makhadzi and left when he was sick. Vukani Khoza from African Child Dance Studios took him in and nursed him to health. When he regained his health, he went back to Makhdzi and that is where he died," Bongani adds. "Do you know what the problem is? Dancers use muthi. That child was hit with muthi because he was amazing. I don't know why he went back Makhadzi's manager Lucky rubbished the claims. "It's a pity we can't go into detail about a person's health. With all due respect to Calvin and his family, we choose silence and we will let those wanting to gain social media followers from the deceased go ahead." Vukani could not be reached for comment.
