There seems to be trouble brewing in the uMkhonto weSizwe Party. This comes after the party secretary-general Arthur Zwane announced his resignation from his position with immediate effect, a mere three weeks after his appointment.

In a letter directed to their leader and former President Jacob Zuma dated July 1, Zwane said that he was resigning to focus on his business interests. "I hereby wish to tender my resignation as secretary-general of uMkhonto weSizwe Party with immediate effect. In the last two weeks, I have realised that the volume of work volume is huge and beyond my limits especially because I have other competing business interests that I'm pursuing. I'm humbled by the confidence you had in me starting from being Deputy Secretary General (DSG) and later SG. I will be available to handover to the newly appointed SG at any determined time I will also be available to help with other organisational matters you want me to help with however not on a full-time basis," the letter reads. 

Zwane is the third secretary-general to vacate the post since January. The party's initial secretary-general, Thanduxolo "Gorbachev" Dyodo, was expelled from the party in April, along with co-founder Jabulani Khumalo. Dyodo was succeeded by Sihle Ngubane, who left the role after the elections to become an MP, leading to Zwane assuming the position. After Zwane's resignation, the party did not waste time and appointed Dr Sifiso Maseko as its new secretary-general. "You are hereby being appointed to resume a role of Secretary General of MKP. You are expected to perform all functions and responsibilities falling within the purview of the Secretary General's office. Your appointment is with immediate effect and or is with effect from the date of acceptance," Maseko's appointment letter read.

Meanwhile, Zuma relieved the party's Treasury General, Danisa Zulu. In a letter to Zulu, Zuma said: "Owing to the need to use our limited and available human capital efficiently, I have decided to relinquish you from the Treasurer General functions with immediate effect. I will soon engage you regarding a new role you can play in a dynamic organisation such as MKP," Zuma said in the letter without explaining the reasons behind Zulu's dismissal.
