Singer Lwah Ndlunkulu has vowed never to do another maskandi song or collaborate with anyone in the genre. This comes after she was featured in Mthandeni Manqele's song Paris which she said has brought her a lot of disrespect from maskandi fans that she could not even enjoy the success of the song.
THE SUCCESSFUL FEATURE
Speaking on a maskandi podcast, Inqubeko News Channel, Lwah whose real name is Lwandile Mtshali ,from Hluhluwe in KwaZulu Natal, said that she doesn't enjoy the success of the because of maskandi rivalry. She believes that the she is a victim of rivalry between award-winning artists Mthandeni and Khuzani who have been attacking each other for years. "To be honest, the song is successful and it is the first maskandi song to reach 9 million streams on Spotify and more than 13 million views on YouTube. But that has only brought me hatred and disrespect from maskandi fans who believe that I am favouring Mthandeni and that is not true. I won't be doing any maskandi song or feature anytime soon because I prefer my peace," she said. She added that maskandi artists want to act like kings instead of growing the genre. "Fans are now following musicians rather than the music itself," she said.
THE MASKANDI BEEF
Lwah further said that it was her dream that the ongoing beef between Mthandeni and Khuzani came to end. "The ongoing beef between them is killing the music industry. If people can just forget about unnecessary beef, this will bring back the glory days. All maskandi artists must stop beefing and start working together to put that music on the map like other music genres. To protect my music career, I think it will best not to do any maskandi song or feature anymore," said the Ithuba hitmaker said. Earlier this year, the singer made Mthandeni fans angry when she pulled a no show at Mthandeni's gig where she was expected to perform Paris with him. Responding to fans who wanted to know why she did not show up, Lwah Ndlunkulu said, "I see you are all breathing down my neck asking why I am not at Mdletsheni. To put you out your misery, I called Mthandeni several times but he did not answer my calls. Instead, his phone was picked up by his dancers. So, therefore I can't just up and go to an event to perform for mahala (free). Remember I am signed under Nkabi Records and there are protocols to be observed.' When called for a comment, Lwah Ndlunkulu dropped the phone when we asked about the issue with Mthandeni. Mthandeni could not be reached for a comment as his phones rang unanswered.
