Just a week after he cancelled his performance at the Cotton Festival, Thokozani Sphamandla Ndlovu also known as L’vovo Derrango hosted a traditional ceremony to appease his ancestors at his home in New Castle outside Durban, KwaZulu Natal.
HE FELT THAT HIS ANCESTORS ARE NOT HAPPY
According to a source who attended the ceremony, L’vovo felt like his ancestors have turned their back on him and he needed to do something to appease them. The source adds that the multi-award-winning artist was also thanking his ancestors for keeping him alive after he survived a stroke in December last year. "It was a beautiful ceremony attended by family and friends who came through to support him," the source said.
PULLING OUT OF THE FESTIVAL
L’vovo pulled out of the Cotton Festival last month citing health reasons. He said in a statement then that his decision was made in accordance with his doctor’s recommendations. "The past few months have been one of the toughest periods of my life, I’ve literally had to watch my life flash before me. Through it all, I’ve received unwavering support from my fans, family, and friends. I’ve been in constant engagement with my doctor these past few days about my condition. Regrettably, the doctor has advised me to take it easy since I have not fully recovered," L’vovo said in a statement. Another source close to him told ZiMoja that the musician felt like there were negative energies and he decided to do umsebenzi for his ancestors to show him direction and clear the negative energies. The source added that as a Zulu man, L’vovo believes in his ancestors, and pleasing them is important to him. "He was in high spirits enjoying his time. He is recovering well and doing good and taking it easy," adds the source. When called for comment, L’vovo said: "I don’t talk to media about my personal life..."
