A hospital official has been arrested after he was allegedly found with stolen food items meant for meals for patients in Limpopo. This was confirmed by the Limpopo health department spokesperson, Thilivhali Muavha, who said the official stole items including stew beef, tinned fish and fresh milk.
TOTALLY WRONG
Muavha said the official's behaviour broke the trust and displayed selfishness."The department condemns this alleged theft from the most vulnerable which also constitutes a breach of trust and the disregard for the well-being of those we serve."
Muavha said the official was busted by security personnel at the hospital during a random search of staff members at the gate. "A case was opened and the culprit has been arrested."
IS IT A THING?
In 2022 two food service aid officials working at Letaba Hospital in Limpopo were arrested and charged with theft after they were also found in possession of packs of groceries meant for patients. The two officials were arrested while leaving the hospital after knocking off from night shift.
Limpopo Health MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, said at the time the grocery was found by the security members when they searched the officials' car at the gate."The security found six packs of groceries stashed in the boot and police were immediately called. This is very disappointing, especially because our department is already operating from a shoestring budget as it is."
