Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has warned locals attempting to register spaza shops on behalf of foreign nationals, calling them sellouts.
DON'T YOU DARE
Panyaza warned locals not to even try and manipulate the system by registering on behalf of foreign nationals. "I dare those South Africans to abuse our kindness and sell out our country by giving other people that are not properly registered. They will regret the day they agreed to that arrangement," he said. He added that local businesses are the "bread and butter" of South Africans who are trying to make an honest living. "We want those that think that they can go through the system and assist people who are not South Africans to try their luck. I can assure you they will regret it," he said.
A SOLID PLAN
Updating on spaza shops, Lesufi said they have technologically advanced, machines that will be used to register people's businesses and would not miss any name. "We know what you are looking for; we know the database; I mean, you can't claim to have had a business in the last three years and when we go to the South African Revenue Services database, you have not filed," he said. He added, "I challenge those that think that they can betray South Africans and use their hearts for freedom and abuse it by allocating responsibility to foreign sponsors. I repeat they will regret why they've taken this particular route," he said.
