Legendary actor, Drake Hogestyn, known for the popular role of John Black which he portrayed for 38 years on the soapie Days of Our Lives, has passed away at 70 years old.

BATTLING ILLNESS

Drake reportedly passed away yesterday, a day before his 71st birthday. His family confirmed the news in a statement sent on social media. "It's with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn,' the family statement read. "He was thrown the curve ball of his life when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but he faced the challenge with incredible strength and determination. After putting up an unbelievable fight, he passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones.'

WILL BE REMEMBERED

The actor made his first appearance on Days of Our Lives in 1986, as the mysterious character, The Pawn, and his role grew into the infamous and iconic, John Black who had a steamy love affair with Dr. Marlena Evans, played by Deidre Hall. He has won multiple awards for the role including the Soap Opera Digest Award for Favorite Couple. Drake was known as a committed husband, father, and grandfather, married to his childhood sweetheart, Victoria Post for 37 years.
