Legendary actor Sello Motloung passes away aged 54

Sello Motloung passed away yesterday

Legendary actor Sello Motloung who appeared on internationally acclaimed movie Invictus, has passed away. Sello, who would have turned 55 on November 4, passed away yesterday. The Meadowlands, Soweto-born actor is best known for his roles on TV dramas like Backstage, Ring of Lies The Wife and Mamello amongst many others.

 

HIS FAMILY CONFIRMED THE NEWS

 

His agency Artist Connection said in a statement: "We are devastated to inform you of the sudden passing of Ntate Sello Motloung on Sunday, 15 September. His family is in shock, and we ask that you give them space at this time. Sello will forever be remembered as one of our legends, and we will miss him tremendously." In the 2009 Hollywood movie Invictus, directed by US actor Clint Eastwood, Motloung appears alongside American actors like Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. The movie talks about events before and during the 1995 Rugby World Cup, when the Springboks won their first tournament after the dismantling of Apartheid in 1990. Sello is the second actor to have passed away in less than a week. Darlington Michaels, who was best known as Papa G on the canned SABC 3 soapie Isidingo, passed away on Friday after an illness.

 

TRIBUTES

 

Paying tribute to the veteran actor, Actor Space said: "A heartfelt tribute to Sello Motloung, a beloved actor and artist who graced us with his talent, passion, and unwavering dedication. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. Rest in peace, bra- Sello. Your light will forever shine in our hearts." The SABC, the platform where Sello started his acting career with dramas such as Nna Sajene Kokobela, has also honoured the actor's memory. In an official statement, the public broadcaster remarked that Sello's contributions to the entertainment industry will always be remembered. "The SABC is profoundly saddened by the passing of Ntate Sello Motloung. His significant role in shaping the entertainment landscape will never be forgotten."
