He recently went under fire for not paying security staff personnel and bouncers who kept audiences and artists safe at his one-man show in Seshego, Limpopo. This time, King Monada, real name Khutso Steven Kgatle, is being accused by Sasha Lifestyle in Thembisa, Johannesburg for not returning their R60 000 payments after he failed to pitch for a gig in December.

NO-SHOW

The management at the establishment says it has been a month and a half of calling, begging and communicating with King Monada and his management to at least refund the booking fee that was given to him. The management at the upmarket venue adds that they host some of the top artists in the country and when an artist does not pitch for a highly publicised event, it gives them a bad reputation. "We are considered liars by our clientele who trust us," Sasha's management says. "Our people come for the great service, the amazing music and great food while they chill and have their cars washed. There are very few artists who don't live up to their word. We first offered that King Monada comes back to the venue at a later date but he has been ignoring all communication."

REPEAT OFFENDER

This is not the first time that King Monada is a no-show for a gig. During the holiday season, he failed to show up for another paid gig at the Limpopo Legends Awards (Lila) in Polokwane and was threatened with legal action. Monada's manager Albert Makwela says he will look into the matter and does not recall owing anyone funds. "We try and keep a diary of all our gigs. If there is an issue, we will investigate and do the right thing." Makwela said.

CONTROVERSIAL

King Monada is no stranger to controversy, in 2022 he slapped a fan and the video went viral on social media. The Limpopo-born star slapped the fan for touching his genitals during a performance at Industrial Shisanyama in Polokwane. His manager said at the time that the Idibala hitmaker felt violated by the incident. King Monada later apologised for his reaction as he felt he could have reacted differently, despite the violation.
