The KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner has set the record straight on reports that suspects have been arrested in connection with the murders of rapper Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes and his friend Tebello 'Tibs' Motsoane. The media in Eswatini reported that two suspects have been arrested in the country for the murders that took place a year ago in Durban.
CASES NOT RELATED
Provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said he has noted with concern and wishes to rectify the reports. Mkhwanazi confirmed that two suspects where indeed arrested and awaiting to be extradited to South Africa, however, their charges have nothing to do with AKA or Tibs' murder as suggested by the media reports from Eswatini. "I wish to place it on record that the suspects in question will be coming back to South Africa to face a case of murder and attempted murder where a man, who was a passenger in a vehicle, was shot and killed in Berea on 6 March 2023. The driver of the vehicle survived the shooting and managed to drive to a fuel station in Berea where she sought assistance. Investigation into that particular case pointed to the suspects who were traced and found to be hiding in Eswatini," explained Mkhwanazi.
INVESTIGATIONS AT A SENSITIVE STAGE
Mkhwanazi has also acknowledged that the murder case of AKA and Tibs has attracted huge public interest and is a topical case for both local and international media. He further emphasised that should there be any developments in that case, it will be timeously communicated with the concerned families first and then the public through the media. "Investigations into that particular matter is at a sensitive stage and the police do not wish to communicate any information that may compromise the investigation process. The AKA' and Tibs murder case is a complex one and there was and still are tons of evidential information to be analysed and processed. This is a prosecution-led investigation and when the police have tied all the loose ends and covered all the loopholes, an announcement into the investigation and the progress thereof will be communicated in due time."
