Justice served!

Zithulele is excited that he will be getting paid for his work

Justice has finally been served for award-winning producer, songwriter and composer, Zithulele Khwela.

TAKING THE BATTLE HEAD ON

This, after Khwela?s fight against the creators of the popular telenovela, Umkhokha: The Curse, yielded results. They have finally credited him for the soundtracks that are part of the show.

Tshepo Nzimande, seasoned music producer and owner of Zuz? Muzi Music, took on the battle after seeing his artist being exploited and not paid royalties for the popular main soundtrack, Mkhululi Wezoni and other songs on the show. The victory for Khwela means that he will get money for music featured in the telenovela, which plays on weekdays. Zimoja has been informed that the parties have signed a non disclosure agreement on the matter.

BABYMAMAS DIDN?T BELIEVE HIM WHEN HE SAID HE HAD NO MONEY

Khwela?s plight became known last month after Zimoja wrote about how he felt betrayed by executive producer Duma Ndlovu and his team for not paying him his royalties when he was the brains behind the songs, backed by his group, Lamontville Cultural Ensemble.

Khwela, 40, who has a fiancée and children, told ZiMoja that some of his baby mamas didn?t believe him when he told them that the producers of Umkhokha hadn?t paid him royalties for his music. "They think I am rich because the show is popular and my music is forever being played there. I don?t know why the producers are doing this to me after they promised me heaven and earth," he said at the time. Khwela, from Lamontville, township in Durban, said that he is happy that Nzimande took his case to challenge the producers of the TV drama series. He said when he wrote the song, Mkhululi Wezoni, he was in a dark space and the song was more personal and talked about his life.

Called for comment Nzimande didn?t want to dwell much on the agreement, except to say they have won the matter, and his protege, Khwela will be paid for his work. Ndlovu refused to comment on the matter. CEO: General Entertainment at Multichoice, Nomsa Philiso would not comment further except to say, "the matter is closed now."
