Proceedings at the North Pretoria High court were delayed yesterday when the defence in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial was afforded time to consult with their clients about the recording that allegedly entails accused number two's confession. The judge, the state, the public and the members of the media had to leave the court to allow the defence to consult and proceedings resumed shortly after 2pm.The court earlier ruled that the recording could be included as part of the evidence in the trial within a trial.
The defence confirmed that they have listened to the evidence on the recording as well as the rest of the confession. The court heard that the newly appointed advocate for accused one and two, advocate Thulani Mngomezulu, would not be available today and the state suggested Cronje's cross-examination to start on Friday. Mngomezulu is said to have another matter he will be attending to in the morning and said the matter can rather start around 11:30 after tea break, instead of a complete postponement.
Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng said the court will hear arguments on the admissibility of the recording this morning. He said Mngomezulu was not the only one representing accused one and two, so they can proceed. The trial continues today and will start at 10am.
