The matter against Uyajola 99 TV presenter Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye was postponed at the Johannesburg Magistrates Court today. He appeared briefly, confidently dressed in an all white tracksuit and white sneakers, accompanied by four body guards. Jub Jub faces 13 charges ranging from multiple counts of rape, indecent assault, assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm and several counts of kidnapping. He was arrested in July after handing himself in at Brixton SAPS and was later released on R10 000 bail.
His defence Ntsako Baloyi requested a further postponement asking to be furnished with additional particulars from the state. "As the state we also need to consult with our witnesses to try and meet the request made by the defence. The court will sit in December and hopefully by then we would have set a trial date because we have been ready to proceed with the matter. It is up to the defence to decide after receiving the particulars whether or not they still want to use the avenue of submitting representations to the NPA offices. We will wait for their guidance," explained NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane. She added that the case is based on statements provided by the witnesses therefore, they have to consult with them to get further information. "The defence is requesting further dates and areas where the alleged incidents occurred,"she said.
Mjonondwane said they made a request for the court to make an order of the leaked documents published in a newspaper.
"These documents include statements made by the complainants that were publicised word for word. It is not in the interest of justice and it also hampers with proper administration of justice when we are going to have statements of witnesses who have not testified in court in news platforms," said Mjonondwane, adding that, "it is prejudicial to both the state and the defence hence we requested to the court to make and order for anyone who is doing that to desist from such behaviour, as this might have a negative impact on the outcome of the case."
The matter will be back in court on the 11 December.
