The gospel music community is in mourning following the passing of Eric Pheli Moyo, a member of the Joyous Celebration group. Moyo who was also an Idols Africa contestant passed away on 20 December, after a brief illness, leaving behind family, friends, and fans who were touched by his music and kind spirit.
HE FELL SICK WHILE ON STAGE
According to a source, he got sick last week Thursday while the choir was performing in Port Elizabeth. The source told ZiMoja that he felt dizzy and dropped his microphone while performing. "He was then taken to the side and complained about headaches and was rushed to emergency," adds the source. Another source says after doctors ran some tests, it was established that his brain was bleeding. He was immediately placed in ICU but two days later, he quickly recovered and was taken out of ICU. According to another source, he was fine when he suddenly died. "He was video calling us updating and assuring us that he is done and cannot wait to fly back to Johannesburg and enjoy the rest of the festive with us, we were taken by surprise to learn of his death," According to another source who was close to the singer, he had so many plans for the festive and was looking forward to their upcoming performance in Bloemfontein. "He loved fellow choir members- they were like a family he would often tell us about them, I can't imagine what they going through," the source said.
HE LEFT A DEEP VOID
In a statement announcing his passing, the choir said: "His passing has left a deep void in the Joyous Family, but his legacy will live on through his music, which touched the hearts of many and made a significant contribution to the gospel music genre." Joyous Celebration family also expressed their condolences to Eric's family and friends. They also shared that they are in communication with Eric's family and will share funeral arrangements on their social media platforms as soon as they become available. Born in Zimbabwe, Eric was discovered by Lindelani Mkhize in 2014, and he quickly became a standout member of Joyous Celebration. As a tenor singer, Eric's performances were electrifying and his stage presence was unmatched. He was also known for his unique songs and snazzy fashion sense. He joined the much-loved gospel group from Joyous 18 and consistently delivered unforgettable performances until his unfortunate death.
