Three Diepsloot community leaders who were arrested last week for public violence, have been released on R500 bail each by the Randburg Magistrates Court. Lefa Nkala, Loyiso Toyiya, and Jack Hlongwane were arrested last week over the ongoing violent protests in the area. The community was complaining of a high crime rate in their community.
Community member Reverend Thokwane Dithuge said the same government they voted in has turned their backs on them. He said all they want is for President Cyril Ramaphosa to come and address them and see their living conditions. "You look at how the prosecutor put the story, pure lies. Secondly, the charges they mentioned, who burnt a mall in Diepsloot? We don't care about their political games, we want security, we want to be safe, we want to sleep well at night. Diepsloot is a crime-infested area and the government has resources, as it is there are police in the area, why are they not coming all the time," said Dithuge. The community leaders are scheduled to appear in court again on August 17, 2023.
