They have united Mzansi with their music since the debut of their single, These Streets, and have graced festivals and weddings. After years with bandmates, Dr. Duda (producer and pianist) and Mo-T (trumpeter), Joao da Fonseca, fondly known as J’Something, is pursuing a solo career.
GOING SOLO
J’Something has released his solo single titled Not Alone. The song moves away from the band’s house background and reveals the singer’s powerful vocals in an inspirational soul and R&B number. "Not Alone is a song I wrote in 2019 and in all honesty never intended to release it," he says. "It’s a song I actually wrote for myself, to remind myself how even though at times I may feel alone I do have a very real connection between body and spirit."
In 2019 he embarked on a new personal journey where he decided to try his utmost best to "unbox" himself as much as possible and allow himself the freedom to explore life, one day at a time. "This song isn’t part of a specific religion per se but more so around something that religion so beautifully teaches us and that is the idea that we all have a spiritual connection to a higher power. All I hope is that this song lands on fertile soil."
MI CASA
Although he is pursuing a solo career, he is still with Mi Casa. A few years ago, the trio opened up about how they almost parted ways after not seeing eye to eye. They said that it was not just one fight that caused the tension but years of sweeping issues under the carpet. "For some reason when we met, our emotions brought out a new love and respect for each other. We were all just really honest with each other and were able to move on. We consider ourselves a regular family, we fight, there are times we don’t want to be around each other but then we make up and move on. That’s what real families go through," J’Something said at the time. The band is now gearing up to kick off a European tour in August, and the excitement is building up among their fans. Over the last 28 days, Mi Casa’s music streams have reflected the buzz for their forthcoming tour. Most of the countries they are touring are among the top ten places streaming their music. Germany, the United Kingdom, Netherlands, France, and Spain are all in the top ten countries listening to their music.
