The founder of Izingane Music Entertainment, Shobeni Khuzwayo, has been hospitalised together with his 13-year-old son after they were shot at their home in Nquthu in the Midlands of KwaZulu Natal on Monday night. Khuzwayo is the brain behind the award-winning maskandi group Izingane Zoma and discovered award winning artist Khuzani Mpungose and the late Mgqumeni Khumalo.
TARGETS IN TAXI VIOLENT
Khuzwayo ,who is now a taxi boss, is the father of two maskandi artists Dlubheke and Falabo. The family is reportedly the target of the ongoing taxi wars in Qhudeni village in the area. In November, his elder son, Dlubheke survived an attack when he was ambushed at the Zonke Izizwe Men's Hostel in Vosloorus in East Rand. Khuzwayo's son, Falabo, confirmed the incident to ZiMoja. "We are still shocked about the attack because I don't recall my father and Dlubheke having enemies. The family started the taxi business a few years ago and that is when we saw people started attacking our family. I don't want to speculate and say it is taxi related because I don't have proof," he said. Falabo said the family was seated together inside a rondavel when his father received a call from an unknown number. "As soon as my father walked out to take the call, he was met with the people we believe are hitmen who shot him a number of times, they continued to shoot at the rondavel hitting my brother as well," Falabo added.
RECOVERING
Falabo said that his family members took cover. "We don't know how we survived it, but we are grateful to God that although my father is recovering in hospital. He is still alive with my younger brother. We are just concerned if the people who attacked us are coming back," he said. He said as the family, they are worried that they might come back to finish what they started. KZN SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed the incident. "Police in Nquthu are investigating cases of attempted murder following an incident in which two family members were shot on Monday, 26 February 2024, at Qhudeni area. It is alleged that the victims were at home when they were attacked by unknown people who opened fire, wounding them. Other family members managed to escape unharmed. The motive is unknown," he said.
