"It's hard to raise a child who looks like his father who subjected you to physically abuse."

Kelly Khumalo says its not easy being a single mother

As she did back in 2012 in a magazine interview when she finally admitted to taking drugs, controversial singer Kelly Khumalo has stirred the hornet's nest. This time around, the Afro-Pop singer made a two-minute video where she spoke about raising a child of her abuser.

A MOTHER OF THREE

Khumalo has three children with three different fathers- her firstborn son, Christian, fathered with media personality Molemo 'Jub Jub' Maarohanye. She also has two daughters, Thingo, whom she shared with the late Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, and Luna, whom she shares with former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mthokozisi Yende.

VOCAL ABOUT HER STRUGGLES

Khumalo has openly and publicly accused Jub Jub of physically abusing her when they were still in a relationship. In the video, which was shared by many social media users, Khumalo said people were not prepared to talk about single mothers who raise children who look like their fathers who have abused them. She said, "There's one thing that we probably never talk about...at all..especially as single moms. Raising children, or a child, of a man who physically abused you. Even more so, that child looks exactly like that person. How much hitting it takes to see that child for who they are, and not for what their father is. How godly one has to be to see what is a constant reminder of how he hurt you," she said. She added that it's worse if that person continues to hurt you in their absence. "Whatever chance they get, they want to step on you and remind you of how they hurt you in the past. But you continue to be a great mom. You choose to be a great mom. You choose to be a better person and a better parent. And you choose to heal for your child's sake because that child is not the image of his or her father but your image too. You choose to see you in them rather than the person that hurt you."
