In a statement read in court Kelly Khumalo revealed that her sister thought she was shot

The murder trial of soccer star, Senzo Meyiwa, continues today

It's going to be another day on the witness stand for Mthokozisi Thwala,as he faces cross examination from the defence of one of the accused in the murder trial of Bafana Bafana goalie, Senzo Meyiwa.

Advocate Zandile Mshololo , the defence for the fifth accused Fisokuhle Ntuli will cross examine Thwala this morning. Thwala was among those who were present when the Bafana Bafana captain was shot at the home of his girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo, in October 2014.

CONTRADICTIONS

Before completing his cross examination, the defence for the accused four ,Advocate Nxumalo, told the court that what was in Tumelo Madlala's, Kelly Khumalo's and Thwala's statements about what exactly transpired that unfateful night was contradictory.

Nxumalo read out Kelly Khumalo's statement and according to the statement, after she ran into one of the bedrooms after the two intruders entered the house, she was then followed by the alleged tall guy. The said intruder is said to have left when she locked the door.

"When I was in the room, I remembered that my child was in the other room. I left the room to go check on my child in the other room. When I went out, I saw my mother struggling with the tall guy. I then tried to help my mom push the tall guy again. I did not see what was happening behind me. I just heard gunshots," read the statement in part, a version that would poke holes in Thwala and Tumelo Madlala's statements.

Nxumalo said based on Khumalo's version of events, the shooting happened in the sitting room of the house and not the kitchen, which is the opposite of what Thwala said.

"The blood splatters in the sitting room adds credence to the idea that the deceased was shot in the sitting room and not in the kitchen," said Nxumalo.

Nxumalo continued to ask Thwala if the second intruder was wearing a hoodie and he answered "yes". "That's not what your statement says," Nxumalo reminded Thwala.

ZANDI THOUGHT SHE WAS SHOT

After the gun went off during the alleged scuffle between Meyiwa and an intruder Kelly's statement read that Zandi thought she was shot "I jumped backwards and my sister then said there was something that had hit her. She said she thought she had been shot. I then saw Senzo running towards me trying to grab me. I grabbed him and I could see he was weak. He fell into my hands and I then realised there was blood on his back. I turned him over and noticed more blood on his chest. He fell on the couch and I helped him as I was screaming calling for help," continued Nxumalo, reading from Kelly's statement Nxumalo, concluded his cross-examination by asking Thwala if he had ever attended any identity parade since Maphisa was arrested in November 2020, to which Thwala responded no.

When Nxumalo further asked Thwala to confirm whether he knew of Maphisa's involvement in the crime, Thwala responded he had not testified to the involvement of any of the five accused.
