The Indlela singer was owing R500 000 in unfiled taxes when SARS took his cars, furniture and belongings, leaving him, his wife, and his kids with an unfurnished home, which was on the verge of being repossessed. Speaking at an EFF Workers Day Community rally in Soshanguve, Dr Malinga said, he owes the party his life after they rescued him from losing his home. 'I cried tears. When people see you crying, they tend to judge. I cried because I needed help," he said. He did not care about the title of being a celebrity. "I sacrificed my celebrity status; I didn't care about being judged. I am not buying face. I didn't go out and rob people, like many people having financial issues. I asked for help." Dr Malinga encouraged his peers in the music industry who are also suffering to ask for help. "I now have a financial advisor and an accountant helping me with paperwork," he added.
EFF were not the only people who came to his rescue, after sharing his story, he received more donations from fans who sent money to his account and music industry colleagues such as Oskido, Black Coffee, and Mkhadzi who booked him for her concert.
