She was on her way from Saints Champagne Lounge in Sandton, Johannesburg around 11 PM with a friend and their driver in a Mercedes Benz when three men pulled up and shot at their car. Former Muvhango actress and club hostess Tebogo Thobejane tells ZiMoja that this is the last thing she expected after coming back to South Africa.
SHOTS FIRED
She had left South Africa for Paris and was travelling between countries for almost a year. This is after she opened a case of defamation against various people including club hostess and Diamond & Dolls star Inno Morolong who went on a social media rant claiming that Tebogo is a scammer, sex worker, pimp and uses muthi. Tebogo says she left because the clubbing scene had become hostile and the "beef and hate towards her was unbearable," she says. "I hated it here. I just wanted to live in a place where there is peace, and I can make my money without intimidation and threats." Tebogo recently returned to reopen her entertainment lounge Club X. "I don't know, maybe it's jealousy or the fact that I have come home to reopen the club but I am not scared. My ancestors would never fail me."
THE MOTIVE
"We had a great evening, I was with my friend in the car and we were driving home around 11 PM when three men pulled up in what looked like a florist vehicle and there was a white Audi following us," she says. "They shot at us and the bullet scrapped me on my back, it missed and hit my friend who is currently in hospital." Tebogo believes it was a hit. "It did not look like it was a robbery or an attempted hijacking. I have my suspicions- it looked like a hit." Tebogo says she is not okay and is traumatised. "We are blessed to be alive, but my friend is in hospital and I am trying to recover from the trauma. I knew some people didn't like me but I did not expect someone to shoot me or to want to kill me. Is it the money? Is it the club? This has become very unsafe. I am a mother, who will take care of my son if anything were to happen to me?"
