Workers at Umhlathuze Occupational Health Clinic are still reeling in shock after a man shot and killed his wife at work in broad daylight. Sengiphiwe Jabuliswe Mthethwa (42) who was working as a clerk at the clinic was shot and killed on Wednesday by her estranged husband.
It's alleged that the man, who is a truck driver employed by the Umhlathuze Municipality, left a note after the murder and fled in the company truck. According to witnesses who wished not to be named, "He came to visit her like he usually does. We were in the other office when we heard gunshots. We rushed to the kitchen and saw the husband walking out with a gun in his hand. Jabu had three gunshot wounds, two on the chest and one in the neck.
It is alleged that the husband left a note where he informed her co-workers that killing her at work was the only option he had as he could not get close to her when she was not at work. KZN SAPS spokesperson Robert Netshiunda confirmed the incident. "Police in Richards Bay have opened a murder case for investigation after a 42-year-old woman was shot and fatally wounded by a suspect at the municipal offices in Alton, Richards Bay on Wednesday. Police responded to reports of a shooting and upon arrival, the body of a woman, who was a nurse at the local clinic was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was certified dead at the scene. "The suspects left what looked like a note detailing why he killed the woman at that spot and police tracked his vehicle to his homestead in Empangeni. A search at his house resulted in the recovery of a firearm whose serial number was filed off. A search for the suspect is underway," he said.
