Hunt for killers as bodies of gogos are found in the veld

The police are appealing for information that will lead to the arrest of the killers

The police in Taung, North West have requested the community to come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of killers after the bodies of two elderly women were discovered in the veld in the early hours of Friday morning, 16 June in Manokwane Village.


COLLECTING FIREWOOD

It is alleged that 80-year-old Mmapulana Pauline Mmusi and Merriam Kelebogile Mokgalagadi (59), left their homes on Thursday afternoon to collect firewood in a nearby field. When they did not return home before dark, their families and community members started looking for them, leading to the gruesome discovery. A spokesperson for North West police Colonel Adéle Myburg said both gogos were found dead not far from each other.


SEVERELY ASSAULTED 

Myburg said that the gogos were both severely assaulted and sustained serious head injuries. "They were both declared dead on the scene by Emergency Medical & Rescue Services. Police are also investigating the possibility that the victims might have been raped," she said. Muburg said anyone with information that can assist the police with the investigation is requested to call Warrant Officer Peace Babe on cell: ‪082 443 8680. Meanwhile, North West Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Sello Kwena condemned the incident and said that the police will work around the clock to ensure that those who are responsible for this horrendous crime are brought to boo
