A Home Affairs official from North West has been suspended after Moja Love's drug-busting TV show Sizokthola, found the woman with screenshots of Home Affairs documents and multiple-identity documents on her. It's alleged the woman who was also profiled by the show in the latest episode on Sunday to be working with drug dealers was selling South African IDs for R50 000.

CAUGHT WITH MULTIPLE IDS

The official was also found with screenshots of official departmental documents on her phone. She claimed that she had the screenshots because she was checking if the papers for her husband's friend were ready. She was also found with a number of IDs belonging to her, her daughter, and her husband who is a foreigner.

SUSPENSION

Speaking to Power FM on Thursday, the Department of Home Affairs Siya Qoza confirmed the woman was placed on suspension pending the investigation into her alleged criminal activities. "The lady is currently on suspension. My colleagues are doing further investigations to make sure that she faces the full might of the law for whatever wrong she has done,' Qoza said.

In September last year, two home affairs officials were dismissed after being found guilty of gross misconduct for processing 111 documents for foreign nationals using SA citizens' details. One official was charged a fee of R1,000 per application while the other processed 13 passport applications, also using South Africans' data, for foreign nationals and charging between R2,500 and R5,000 each. Earlier this year, two immigration officers stationed at OR International Airport were arrested after they were allegedly found selling South African IDs to foreigners for R20 000 each.
