The Gauteng Department of Health has denied claims that two of their hospitals owe City Power an electricity bill of over R30million.
This comes hours after Helen Joseph and Rahima Moosa hospitals were served with pre-termination notices by City Power.
In a statement issued by the department, records reveal that Helen Joseph does not owe City Power an amount of R23 million. Rahima Moosa was alleged to owe R7million.
"There is, however, only one invoice that is outstanding for the month of June, which City Power has not uploaded onto the e-invoicing portal. In addition, Rahima Moosa?s payment of R2.7m from July to August is being processed. The management for the two facilities met with City Power officials to present their case only to find out that what is alleged to be due does not warrant power disconnection," said a statement issued by the health department.
City Power has been conducting weekly operations targeting residential areas and businesses that haven?t paid the power utility for years and owe them millions.
"City Power is concerned with the levels of non-payment from government institutions. Government properties across the city owe over half a billion Rand. We will be clamping down on these defaulters, as we intensify our revenue-collection drive,"said City Power spokesperson, Isaac Mangena
