Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the 97-year-old was attacked and stabbed to death with a sharp object. "The incident happened at the pensioner's home and her lifeless body was discovered by a relative," he said. He added that the police were notified and upon their initial investigation, at the crime scene, the suspect was alleged to be unknown by family members. "The dedicated team of investigators uncovered evidence which connected the grandson who was also staying with the deceased. The suspect was arrested at the same residence in Ramogale Village," said Ledwaba.
ROBBING THE DEAD
Ledwaba said the police also discovered that the suspect also robbed the deceased of a large amount of money which the pensioner had been saving from her monthly grant. "The police managed to recover some of the cash found hidden in the suspect's bedroom and other exhibits which included the knife which was found inside a pit toilet at a nearby tavern which is believed to have been used to commit the crime," Ledwaba said.
