Grammy winner Tyla forced to cancel world tour due to injury

Tyla was forced to cancell her tour due to injury

Hardly three months after winning a Grammy, South African singer Tyla has suffered a bad injury forcing her to cancel all her international tour dates and festival performances. The Water hitmaker was scheduled to kick off her two-continent Tyla Tour in Oslo on 21 March. She took to her Instagram page yesterday to announce the news and explained why she was cancelling her shows.

IT WILL HIT HER IN THE POCKET

The European leg of the tour was going to see her perform in cities like Stockholm, Copenhagen, Berlin, Cologne, Paris, Amsterdam and end in London on 1 April. She was also penned to perform in North America in cities like Miami Beach, Dallas, Atlanta, Toronto, Atlanta, Washington and Philadelphia, amongst the more than 30 cities in the US and Europe. The 22-year-old singer will lose a lot of money from the cancelled tours. She was also supposed to perform at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April with Lana Del Rey, Tyler the Creator and Doja Cat as one of the headline acts for the show. Tyla rose to international fame with the release of her 2023 single, Water.

SHE COULD NO LONGER HANDLE THE PAIN

In the statement she said: "My Tygers… All of you know that this moment you have all helped me transform into reality, has been a life-changing dream. I am so grateful and humbled by this past year and the way it's changed my life. I can never thank you guys enough for all your loving support, all the joy, the laughter and the wins.' she said, adding that she thought she would deal with her illness privately in the past year, until it forced her to change her work schedule. She wrote: "As much as this is something I would rather have dealt with privately, it's important that I share what I have to share with you today. For the past year I've been silently suffering with an injury that has tragically worsened. I've seen doctors and specialists with high hopes, but the pain has only become more agonising as has the severity of the situation. "I am absolutely heartbroken to have to say this but as of right now I won't be able to proceed with the tour. In consulting with medical professionals, it's become increasingly clear that continuing any festival or tour dates would jeopardise my long-term health and safety.'

TICKETS WILL BE REFUNDED

Tyla was awarded the inaugural Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance last month. Meanwhile, Tyla assured her fans and "Tygers" that those who have already bought her tickets will be refunded. She said: "For North American headline dates, your tickets will automatically be refunded, for all other territories you will be contacted by your ticket provider regarding options, please keep a lookout for new dates and information.'
