The body of a 16-year-old learner was discovered at a school rugby field in Tshwane today by a security guard. It’s still unclear how the body landed at the premises since schools are closed. Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane has expressed shock at the discovery and has called on the police to arrest the killers. The learner, Mia Kuhn was attending the same school.

 FOUND BY GUARDS

Department of Education spokesperson Steve Mabona said information suggests that the shocking discovery of a girl learner was made by a security guard at the Hoerskool Garsfontein. The guard made the shocking discovery on the rugby field in the morning. Mabona said the police went to the scene and conducted their own investigations. "The learner’s family is also at the school and they will receive necessary support from our psycho-social support team. What is unclear at this stage is how the dead body of the girl learner landed in the school, especially since schools are on recess and there are no learners at school. We call upon the police to urgently apprehend the perpetrators. We also extend our sincerest condolences to the family and the school community at large," said MEC Chiloane.

THE FAMILY IS NOT READY TO SPEAK

Mabona said the MEC urged the police to act swiftly in apprehending whoever is responsible for the learner’s death, especially because schools are closed and it is not understandable how she got there. "We can’t afford to lose kids, it really weighs heavy on us because it’s one child too many. I really hope there’s no foul play in this matter. We will be keeping a close eye on the developments of this case, so far we have learnt that death is unnatural," said Chiloane. He added that the mother last saw her daughter around midnight when they were going to bed." The mother believes it was at that the that she managed to slip out. Another important aspect is how she gained entry to the school because the gates were locked and there was security, however, this will be subject to investigation.
